U.S. Attorney’s Office Announces Sentencing of Albuquerque Man for Violent Carjacking and Robbery Spree

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A federal district court judge today sentenced Alfredo Acevedo, 19, of Albuquerque, to 10 years in prison for his role in a month-long violent carjacking and robbery spree in the city.

Acevedo, along with four co-defendants, admitted to committing seven carjackings and robberies targeting pizza delivery drivers and other individuals from Feb. 6 to March 7, 2022.

During the spree, Acevedo and his co-defendants used firearms and physical force to steal vehicles, rob victims of their personal belongings, and commit home invasion robberies.

Acevedo pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, one count of conspiracy to possess a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and two counts of Hobbs Act robbery. He was sentenced to 120 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release.

“The defendant’s actions terrorized the citizens of Albuquerque, including innocent delivery drivers simply trying to earn a living,” said U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez. “We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to hold accountable those who engage in violent crime and make our communities safer.”

“Today’s sentence should serve as a stark warning to anyone who thinks they can commit violent crimes and avoid justice,” said Special Agent in Charge Raul Bujanda of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office. “The FBI will use all its resources to apprehend and prosecute those who terrorize our communities.”

The five co-defendants have also been charged and sentenced in this case. They are:

  • Darius Garcia, 18, of Albuquerque, sentenced to 120 months in prison
  • Destiny Vigil, 19, of Albuquerque, sentenced to 60 months in prison
  • Janiel Mora, 18, of Albuquerque, sentenced to 37 months in prison
  • Isabel Guadalupe Gonzales, 18, of Albuquerque, sentenced to 24 months in prison
  • Juvenile suspect, whose name was not released, sentenced to 18 months in prison

The investigation into this case was conducted by the FBI and the Albuquerque Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Elaine Ramirez and Jacob Wishard prosecuted the case.
