The Welsh Government has made The A449 & A40 Trunk Roads (Coldra Interchange, Newport to the Wales/England Border, Monmouthshire) (Temporary Traffic Prohibitions & Restrictions) Order 2025. This Order will come into force on 20th February 2025 and will expire on 20th November 2025.
The Order prohibits any vehicle from proceeding along sections of the A449 and A40 trunk roads in Monmouthshire because it is necessary to carry out resurfacing works on the Coldra Interchange.
The Order will be in force 24 hours a day and the prohibition does not apply to vehicles used in connection with the works, emergency services vehicles, vehicles being used for fire fighting purposes or vehicles being used in the carrying out of statutory functions by a statutory undertaker.
The Order includes:
- A prohibition of driving vehicles on the A449 Trunk Road from its junction with the Castleton Service Station westbound on-slip road to its junction with the access road serving the accommodation at Tŷ Bwlch, near Abergavenny, a distance of approximately 2.5 kilometres.
- A prohibition of driving vehicles on the A40 Trunk Road from its junction with the Coldra Interchange Roundabout to its junction with the M4 Motorway Junction 23A, a distance of approximately 1.3 kilometres.
Alternative routes are available via the M4 or A566 trunk roads.
