Pontiac, Quebec – Today, Sophie Chatel, Member of Parliament for Pontiac, on behalf of the Honourable Domic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, announced $66,000 in Government of Canada funding for two organizations in the Pontiac region.

The funding, provided through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF), will support the following projects:

  • $36,451 for the Pontiac Agricultural Awareness Association to make improvements to the exterior of their building, including the installation of a new roof, windows, and doors.
  • $29,683 for the Municipality of Sheenboro to build a new, accessible washroom facility at the Sheenboro Community Centre.

“Our government is investing in infrastructure projects that make a real difference in the lives of Canadians,” said MP Chatel. “These projects will help to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors in the Pontiac region, and I am pleased to announce this funding on behalf of the Government of Canada.”

The CIIF is a federal program that provides funding for small-scale infrastructure projects that contribute to the quality of life in rural and remote communities across Canada. The program is delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities on behalf of the Government of Canada.

“The Federation of Canadian Municipalities is pleased to partner with the Government of Canada to deliver the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,” said Bill Karsten, President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. “This funding will help communities in the Pontiac region improve their infrastructure and create a better quality of life for their residents.”

The Pontiac Agricultural Awareness Association is a non-profit organization that promotes agriculture and rural life in the Pontiac region. The association operates a farmers’ market, a community garden, and a variety of educational programs.

The Municipality of Sheenboro is a small community located in the Pontiac region. The Sheenboro Community Centre is a popular gathering place for residents and visitors, and the new washroom facility will make the centre more accessible and inclusive.

“I am very grateful for this funding from the Government of Canada,” said Bruce Roy, President of the Pontiac Agricultural Awareness Association. “This funding will allow us to make important improvements to our building, and it will help us to continue to provide valuable services to the community.”

“This funding is a welcome investment in our community,” said Warden Marc Renaud. “The new washroom facility at the Sheenboro Community Centre will make the centre more accessible and inclusive, and it will be a valuable asset for our community.”
