SAGuenay, QC – The Government of Canada is investing in four organizations in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region to help them grow and diversify the regional economy. The funding will support projects that will create jobs, boost innovation, and promote sustainable development.
The four organizations receiving funding are:
- Centre collégial de transfert de technologie en développement durable (CCTTDD): $1.5 million to support the development of a new training program for workers in the forestry sector.
- Centre intégré national d’aluminium, du cuivre et des métaux stratégiques (CINAMS): $1 million to support the development of new technologies for the extraction and processing of aluminum, copper, and other strategic metals.
- Centre de recherche en sciences de l’aluminium de l’Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (CRIAL): $800,000 to support the development of new aluminum alloys and welding techniques.
- Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec): $500,000 to support the development of a new sports complex in Saguenay.
“These investments will help to create jobs, boost innovation, and promote sustainable development in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region,” said the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages. “The Government of Canada is committed to supporting organizations that are working to grow and diversify the Canadian economy.”
The funding is being provided through the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program. REGI is a $950 million program that supports projects that promote economic growth in regions across Canada.
