Mayor Muriel Bowser today announced the launch of a new Youth Development Professional Certification Program at George Washington University. The program is designed to provide professionals working with youth in the District of Columbia with the skills and knowledge they need to effectively support young people’s development.
“Our young people are our future, and we are committed to providing them with the resources and support they need to succeed,” said Mayor Bowser. “This new certification program will provide professionals working with youth in the District with the skills and knowledge they need to effectively support young people’s development.”
The Youth Development Professional Certification Program is a 12-month program that will cover a range of topics, including:
- Youth development theory and practice
- Positive youth development
- Trauma-informed care
- Cultural competence
- Youth engagement
- Program evaluation
Participants in the program will have the opportunity to learn from leading experts in the field of youth development. They will also have the opportunity to network with other professionals working with youth in the District.
The program is open to professionals working with youth in a variety of settings, including schools, community centers, and nonprofit organizations. Participants must have a bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience working with youth.
The cost of the program is $2,500. Scholarships are available for eligible participants.
Applications for the Youth Development Professional Certification Program are now being accepted. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2025.
