Today, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Health, announced new projects totaling $20 million to strengthen health systems that reach the poorest and most vulnerable populations in Canada.
“Every Canadian deserves access to quality health care, regardless of their income or where they live,” said Minister Hussen. “These new projects will help us to improve the health of our most vulnerable populations and reduce health inequities.”
The projects will be funded through the Health Infrastructure Fund, which provides support for the construction, renovation, and expansion of health facilities. The projects include:
- A new primary health care clinic in a remote Indigenous community in northern Canada. The clinic will provide access to a range of health services, including primary care, mental health services, and dental care.
- A mobile health unit that will provide health care services to homeless people in Toronto. The unit will be equipped with a medical examination room, a pharmacy, and a counseling room.
- A new mental health and addictions treatment center in a rural community in Atlantic Canada. The center will provide a range of services, including individual and group therapy, medication management, and peer support.
