Backgrounder: 2024-2026 Sport for Social Development in Indigenous Communities: Stream One Funded Applicants
Ottawa, Ontario (February 7, 2025)
The Department of Canadian Heritage is pleased to announce the list of funded applicants for the 2024-2026 Sport for Social Development in Indigenous Communities: Stream One funding stream.
This stream provides funding to Indigenous organizations to deliver sport-based programs and activities that promote positive social outcomes for Indigenous youth and adults. Funded projects focus on one or more priority areas, including:
- Health and wellness promotion
- Crime prevention and diversion
- Skill development and leadership training
- Community engagement
Funded Applicants
The following organizations have been selected to receive funding through this stream:
- Assembly of First Nations (AFN) – $2,000,000
- Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) – $1,500,000
- Métis National Council (MNC) – $1,250,000
- National Native Child and Family Services Program (NNCFSP) – $1,000,000
- Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) – $750,000
- Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada – $500,000
- The Arctic Winter Games Society Inc. – $375,000
- The First Nations Health and Social Secretariat of Manitoba – $250,000
- The National Aboriginal Hockey Association – $125,000
- The Aboriginal Sport Circle – $100,000
Project Scope
Funded projects will range in scope and size, with a focus on community-led initiatives that meet the specific needs of the Indigenous population in the area served.
Expected Outcomes
Expected outcomes of funded projects include:
- Increased participation of Indigenous youth and adults in sport-based activities
