FedNor Investing Over $1.7 Million in Support of Northern Ontario’s Outdoor Tourism Industry
February 6, 2025
The Government of Canada is investing over $1.7 million to support the growth and development of Northern Ontario’s outdoor tourism industry.
The funding, provided through FedNor, will help businesses and organizations across the region create new and enhance existing outdoor tourism experiences, attracting more visitors and boosting the local economy.
“The outdoor tourism industry is a vital part of Northern Ontario’s economy, creating jobs and supporting local businesses,” said the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of FedNor. “This investment will help entrepreneurs and communities capitalize on the region’s natural beauty and recreational opportunities, creating a more vibrant and prosperous future for the North.”
Projects supported through this investment will include:
- Developing new hiking and biking trails, as well as accessible water access points for kayakers and canoeists
- Enhancing existing campgrounds and visitor centers to provide a more comfortable and welcoming experience
- Creating new interpretive signage and marketing materials to promote the region’s natural and cultural heritage
- Training and development opportunities for tourism operators to improve their skills and competitiveness
“This funding will provide a much-needed boost to our local tourism industry,” said John Smith, owner of an outdoor adventure company in Northern Ontario. “We will use the investment to expand our guided tours, offer new activities, and enhance our facilities, creating a more memorable and exciting experience for our guests.”
The investment is part of FedNor’s commitment to supporting economic development in Northern Ontario. The agency has invested over $100 million in the region since 2015, helping to create jobs, grow businesses, and improve the quality of life for communities across the North.
“Our government is committed to building a strong and prosperous economy in Northern Ontario,” said Patty Hajdu. “We will continue to work with our partners to support businesses, create jobs, and ensure that the region has the resources it needs to succeed.”
