OTTAWA, ON – The Government of Canada is investing $48.4 million in port infrastructure projects in Atlantic Canada to improve safety, efficiency, and trade capacity.
The funding will be used to support projects at the Port of Halifax, Port of Saint John, and Port of Sept-Îles.
At the Port of Halifax, $20 million will be invested to upgrade the South End Container Terminal. This project will increase the terminal’s capacity and improve its ability to handle larger vessels.
At the Port of Saint John, $15 million will be invested to upgrade the container handling equipment. This project will improve the port’s efficiency and reduce the time it takes to load and unload vessels.
At the Port of Sept-Îles, $13.4 million will be invested to upgrade the wharf infrastructure. This project will improve the port’s safety and capacity to handle bulk cargo.
The Government of Canada is committed to investing in infrastructure projects that will create jobs, grow the economy, and improve the quality of life for Canadians.
“These investments will help our Atlantic ports to remain competitive and efficient, which will support trade, create jobs, and grow our economy,” said the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport.

The projects are expected to be completed by 2027.
