Esquimalt, BC – The Honourable Harjit Sajjan, Minister of National Defence, today inaugurated the new B Jetty at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt, a significant infrastructure project that will enhance the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) operational capabilities.
The B Jetty is a 350-meter-long wharf that has been constructed to accommodate the RCN’s new Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS), as well as other naval vessels. The jetty features a reinforced concrete deck, upgraded utilities, and modern mooring equipment, enabling it to withstand harsh weather conditions and support the increased weight and draft of the AOPS.

The construction of the B Jetty began in 2022 and was completed in January 2025. The project cost approximately $120 million and was funded through the Government of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy.
The inauguration ceremony included a ribbon-cutting and a tour of the new jetty. In attendance were senior military officials, dignitaries, and representatives from the shipbuilding consortium, Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards.

The new B Jetty is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025.
