Sanctions: Ordinance on measures against Venezuela

Bern, 04.02.2025 – On 03.02.2025, the Federal Council adopted an ordinance on measures against Venezuela. This ordinance implements the measures decided by the EU on 27 January 2025. The measures target individuals and companies responsible for human rights violations and undermining democracy in Venezuela. Switzerland thus supports the EU’s efforts to promote respect for human rights and democracy in that country.

The ordinance adopted by the Federal Council on 03.02.2025 implements the EU sanctions decided on 27 January 2025. These sanctions provide for a travel ban and asset freeze against 19 individuals and 9 entities responsible for human rights violations and the undermining of democracy in Venezuela.

The measures are part of the EU’s efforts to promote respect for human rights and democracy in Venezuela. Switzerland supports these efforts and has therefore decided to implement the EU’s sanctions.

The ordinance adopted by the Federal Council enters into force on 04.02.2025. It will be published in the Federal Gazette on 07.02.2025.
