Man Prosecuted for Running Illegal Waste Site Near Milton Keynes
4 February 2025
A man has been prosecuted for running an illegal waste site near Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.
Buckinghamshire Council received reports of waste being illegally deposited in a field off Tattenhoe Lane, Shenley Brook End.
Officers visited the site and found a large amount of waste, including household waste, commercial waste, and construction waste. The waste was piled high and had not been disposed of properly.
The investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year-old man from Milton Keynes. He was charged with managing a waste site without a permit and polluting the environment.
He appeared at Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court on 3 February 2025 and pleaded guilty to the charges. He was ordered to pay a fine of £2,000 and costs of £1,000.
Councillor Nigel Long, Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services at Buckinghamshire Council, said:
“This successful prosecution sends a clear message that we will not tolerate illegal waste activity in Buckinghamshire. This site was a blight on the local community and we are pleased to have taken action to address the issue. We would like to thank the residents who reported the site to us.”
Illegal waste sites can have a significant negative impact on the environment. They can pollute the air, water, and soil, and can attract vermin. They can also be a fire hazard.
Buckinghamshire Council is committed to tackling illegal waste activity. The council has a dedicated team of officers who investigate reports of illegal waste sites and take enforcement action where necessary.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspected illegal waste activity to the council on 0300 137 8000 or by email at [email protected]
