Seizure of contraband items at Drummond Institution
February 4, 2025, 6:34 PM
KINGSTON, Ont. – On February 3, 2025, staff members at Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal prison, intercepted and seized a package containing contraband during an inspection of incoming mail.
The package contained the following prohibited items:
- 200 grams of marijuana
- 50 grams of hashish
- 50 oxycodone pills
- 2 cell phones
- 1 charger
The seizure was the result of ongoing efforts by Correctional Service Canada (CSC) staff to prevent the introduction of contraband into its institutions.
“The seizure of these items is a testament to the vigilance of our staff,” said CSC Regional Deputy Commissioner Mike Auger. “We are committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for our staff and inmates.”
CSC uses a variety of tools to detect and prevent contraband from entering its institutions, including ion scanners, pat-downs, and searches of inmates and their cells.
The introduction of contraband into prisons poses a serious threat to the safety and security of institutions. Contraband can be used to facilitate violence, escape, and other criminal activity.
CSC is committed to working with law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute those who attempt to introduce contraband into its institutions.
Anyone with information about contraband in CSC institutions is encouraged to contact the CSC Tip Line at 1-800-267-2211.
