NASA to Talk Science, Tech Aboard Next Intuitive Machines Moon Flight

NASA and Intuitive Machines will host a media teleconference at 1 p.m. EST Tuesday, Feb. 7, to discuss the science and technology investigations scheduled to fly aboard the company’s Nova-C lunar lander during its second Moon mission.

Scheduled to launch as early as late 2025 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, Nova-C will carry a NASA-funded science payload that includes a seismometer to measure moonquakes, drill to extract samples from beneath the lunar surface, and a hyperspectral imager to collect data on the Moon’s composition.

The mission is part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program, which is accelerating the agency’s return of humans to the Moon through lunar lander technology development and utilization.

Participants in the media teleconference will be:

  • Thomas Zurbuchen, NASA associate administrator for science
  • Jacob Bleacher, Intuitive Machines’ chief technology officer
  • David Kring, principal investigator for the MoonLIGHT investigation
  • Jian-Yang Li, principal investigator for the PITT lander investigation
  • Bethany Ehlmann, principal investigator for the LunaH-Map investigation
