Hiab: Mimit, industrial and employment solution talks continue

ROME (Reuters) – Talks between Italian automotive seating maker Mimit and Swedish truck equipment maker Hiab continue to find an industrial and employment solution, Italy’s Industry Minister Adolfo Urso said on Monday.

Mimit in July last year entered into exclusive negotiations with Hiab, owned by U.S. private equity group Carlise Companies, over a potential deal that would see Hiab buy a majority stake in Mimit.

Urso told reporters in Rome that he had met representatives from both companies and that talks were ongoing.

“As the minister of industry the priority for me is to ensure that employment can be guaranteed and an industrial solution can be found,” Urso said.

Mimit, based in Carmagnola near Turin, makes seats for tractors, buses and trucks and employs about 300 people in Italy.

A source familiar with the situation said last month that Hiab was likely to offer to buy a stake of between 60% and 70% in Mimit, but that an agreement between the two sides was still some way off.
