Statement from the President of the Treasury Board on advancing digital government
January 30, 2025
Today, the President of the Treasury Board, the Honourable Mona Fortier, issued the following statement on advancing digital government:
“The Government of Canada is committed to building a more modern, efficient, and accessible digital government that meets the needs of Canadians.
Today, I am pleased to announce the launch of a new Digital Government Strategy that will guide our efforts over the next five years. This strategy is the result of extensive consultations with Canadians, businesses, and government partners, and it outlines a clear path forward for how we will:
- Improve the digital delivery of government services
- Make it easier for Canadians to interact with government
- Protect Canadians’ privacy and security online
- Build a skilled and diverse digital workforce
Improving the digital delivery of government services
We will invest in modernizing our IT systems and infrastructure to make it easier for Canadians to access government services online. We will also work with provinces and territories to harmonize our digital services and make it easier for Canadians to receive the support they need, regardless of where they live.
Making it easier for Canadians to interact with government
We will redesign our websites and online platforms to make them more user-friendly and accessible. We will also introduce new tools and technologies to make it easier for Canadians to interact with government, such as chatbots and virtual assistants.
Protecting Canadians’ privacy and security online
We will continue to invest in strong cybersecurity measures to protect Canadians’ personal information online. We will also work with our partners to develop new ways to protect Canadians from online fraud and cybercrime.
Building a skilled and diverse digital workforce
We will invest in training and development programs to help our employees develop the skills they need to succeed in the digital age. We will also work to attract and retain a diverse workforce that reflects the population of Canada.
The Digital Government Strategy is a key part of our government’s commitment to building a more modern, efficient, and accessible government for Canadians. We are confident that this strategy will help us to meet the challenges and opportunities of the digital age and deliver better services to Canadians.”
