Canadian Space Agency Astronaut Joshua Kutryk Visits the Edmonton Area

January 30, 2025 – Edmonton, AB – Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut Joshua Kutryk is visiting the Edmonton area today to share his experiences and inspire the next generation of space explorers.

Kutryk, who was born in Edmonton, became the first Canadian to walk in space in 2019 during a mission to the International Space Station (ISS). He spent over 200 days in space and conducted three spacewalks.

During his visit to Edmonton, Kutryk will be meeting with students, teachers, and community members at a number of events. He will also be giving a public lecture at the University of Alberta on January 31.

In an interview with CBC Edmonton, Kutryk said he is excited to be back in his hometown to share his story.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting with the students and talking to them about my experiences in space,” he said. “I hope I can inspire them to pursue their dreams, no matter how big they may seem.”

Kutryk’s visit to Edmonton is part of the CSA’s “Astronaut Outreach Program,” which aims to promote science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education in Canada.

The program brings astronauts to schools and communities across the country to share their experiences and inspire students to pursue careers in STEM fields.
