The UK strongly supports UNRWA and the vital role it plays in providing essential services to millions of Palestinian refugees.
For over 70 years, UNRWA has been a lifeline for some of the most vulnerable people in the Middle East. It provides education, healthcare, food assistance and other essential services to over 5 million Palestinian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank and Gaza.
These services are essential to the survival, dignity and well-being of these refugees. They are also essential to the stability of the region.
We are deeply concerned by the recent reductions in funding to UNRWA. These cuts have had a devastating impact on the agency’s ability to deliver its essential services.
We urge all donors to provide the necessary funding to UNRWA so that it can continue its lifesaving work.
We also urge Israel to ensure that UNRWA is able to continue its operations in the occupied Palestinian territories. Israel has a legal obligation to allow UNRWA to operate freely and without hindrance.
The UK remains committed to supporting UNRWA and the Palestinian refugees it serves. We will continue to work with our partners to ensure that UNRWA has the resources it needs to continue its vital work.
