Quebec’s tourism industry: Government of Canada supports St. Lawrence Cruise Association
Published: 2025-01-28 19:28
The Government of Canada is investing $1 million in the St. Lawrence Cruise Association (SLCA) to support the recovery of the Quebec tourism industry, particularly in the regions of Quebec City, Trois-Rivières and Saguenay.
The funding, provided through the Tourism Relief Fund (TRF), will allow the SLCA to carry out marketing and promotional activities to attract more cruise ships and tourists to the St. Lawrence River.
This investment builds on the Government of Canada’s commitment to supporting the tourism sector, which has been hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. The TRF provides $500 million in support to tourism businesses and organizations across Canada, including festivals and events, Indigenous tourism businesses, and tour operators.
“Our government is committed to supporting the tourism sector, which is a major economic driver for Quebec and across Canada,” said the Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance. “This investment in the St. Lawrence Cruise Association will help to attract more cruise ships and tourists to the St. Lawrence River, supporting local businesses and creating jobs.”
“The St. Lawrence Cruise Association is grateful for the Government of Canada’s support,” said the SLCA’s President and CEO, Yves Lalumière. “This funding will allow us to carry out marketing and promotional activities that will help to attract more cruise ships and tourists to the St. Lawrence River, supporting local businesses and creating jobs.”
The SLCA is a non-profit organization that represents the interests of cruise ship operators, ports and tourism businesses along the St. Lawrence River. Its mission is to promote the St. Lawrence River as a world-class cruise destination.
