Ottawa, January 27, 2025 – The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, the Honourable David Lametti, today announced the following judicial appointments in the province of Alberta:
- The Honourable Justice Sheila Greckol has been appointed a Judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta. Madam Justice Greckol was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 1994. She has practiced law in both the public and private sectors, and has been a member of the Alberta Law Reform Institute since 2016.
- The Honourable Justice Ritu Khullar has been appointed a Judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta. Madam Justice Khullar was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 2003. She has practiced law as a Crown Prosecutor and as a partner at a private law firm, and has been a member of the Alberta Civil Liberties Association since 2012.
These appointments are the result of the Government of Canada’s commitment to appointing highly qualified, diverse and reflective judges to the bench.
The Honourable Justice Greckol and the Honourable Justice Khullar will assume their new roles on February 15, 2025.

The Honourable Justice Sheila Greckol
Justice Sheila Greckol received her law degree from the University of Alberta in 1994. She was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 1995.
After graduating from law school, Justice Greckol articled with the Alberta Crown Prosecutor’s Office. In 1996, she joined the Department of Justice Canada as a federal prosecutor. She worked in the Department’s Calgary office until 2002, when she moved to the Edmonton office.
In 2005, Justice Greckol left the Department of Justice to join the law firm of Bennett Jones LLP in Edmonton. She practiced civil litigation at Bennett Jones until 2016, when she was appointed to the Alberta Law Reform Institute.
Justice Greckol has been involved in a number of professional and community organizations. She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Alberta, and the Canadian Association of Crown Counsel. She has also served on the board of directors of CASA Child and Family Services and the Edmonton Community Legal Centre.
The Honourable Justice Ritu Khullar
Justice Ritu Khullar received her law degree from the University of Windsor in 2003. She was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 2004.
After graduating from law school, Justice Khullar joined the Alberta Crown Prosecutor’s Office. She worked as a Crown Prosecutor in the Calgary and Edmonton offices until 2012, when she left to join the law firm of Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP in Calgary.
