Ottawa, January 27, 2025 – The Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the appointment of the Honourable Martin Bélanger to the Tax Court of Canada.
Justice Bélanger is a highly respected legal professional with over 25 years of experience in tax law. He has practiced extensively in both the public and private sectors, including as a partner at a leading Canadian law firm and as a counsel with the Department of Justice Canada.
Justice Bélanger is also an active member of the legal community. He has served on the board of directors of the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Canadian Bar Association’s Taxation Section, and the International Fiscal Association. He is also a regular speaker and author on tax law matters.
“I am confident that Justice Bélanger will make a valuable contribution to the Tax Court of Canada,” said Minister Lametti. “His extensive experience and expertise in tax law will serve him well in this new role.”

Justice Bélanger’s appointment is effective March 1, 2025. He will replace the Honourable Simon Noël, who is retiring from the Court.

Justice Bélanger received his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ottawa in 1998. He also holds a Master of Laws degree in Taxation from Osgoode Hall Law School.
