- 24 January 2025, 14:15
Development consent has been granted for a new solar park near Sleaford, Lincolnshire by the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
The Heckington Fen Solar Park will have a capacity of up to 49.9 megawatts (MW) and is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of around 34,000 homes.
The solar park will be located on land north of the A17 and east of the A15, near the village of Heckington. It is expected to be operational by 2027.
The development has been approved following a public consultation and examination of the plans by the Planning Inspectorate.
The Secretary of State has concluded that the project is in the public interest and that its benefits outweigh its impacts.
The project is expected to create up to 250 jobs during construction and up to 10 permanent jobs once operational. It is also expected to generate up to £1.5 million in business rates over its lifetime.
The Heckington Fen Solar Park is one of a number of solar parks that are being developed in Lincolnshire. The county has the potential to become a major hub for renewable energy generation, due to its high levels of sunshine and good grid infrastructure.
The project is being developed by Low Carbon, a leading developer of renewable energy projects in the UK. Low Carbon has a track record of developing and operating successful solar parks across the country.
The company said that it is delighted to have received development consent for the Heckington Fen Solar Park and that it looks forward to working with the local community to bring the project to fruition.
