New York, 17 January 2025 – The Security Council today was warned of the security and political challenges facing the United Nations peacekeeping operations in Lebanon and Syria, and urged to extend their mandates for another year to help maintain stability in the region.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, told the Council that the situation in Lebanon remained “fragile and complex”, with the country facing a number of security and political challenges.
