Schwartz has a long and distinguished career at NASA, spanning over 30 years. She most recently served as the Deputy Director of the Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. In this role, she was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the center, including its budget, personnel, and facilities.
Prior to her time at Glenn, Schwartz held a variety of leadership positions at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. She served as the Associate Administrator for Operations, where she was responsible for oversight of NASA’s center operations, as well as the agency’s safety and mission assurance programs. She also served as the Deputy Associate Administrator for Space Flight, where she was responsible for the development and operation of NASA’s human space flight programs.
Schwartz is a graduate of the University of Maryland, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering. She also holds a Master of Science degree in engineering management from George Washington University.
In her new role as Director of COD, Schwartz will be responsible for leading a team of over 3,000 employees who are responsible for the day-to-day operations of NASA’s field centers. These centers conduct a wide range of research and development activities, including work on space exploration, aeronautics, and Earth science.
