NASA Selects David Korth as Deputy of Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate

Washington, D.C. – NASA has appointed David Korth as the new Deputy Director of the Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) Directorate, effective immediately. He will lead NASA’s efforts to ensure the safety of human spaceflight and the success of its missions.

Korth has been with NASA since 1997, holding various leadership positions within the SMA Directorate. Most recently, he served as Chief of the Risk Management Division, where he oversaw the development and implementation of risk management strategies for NASA’s missions.

As Deputy Director, Korth will be responsible for:

Korth holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University.
“David’s strong technical background and commitment to safety make him an ideal choice for this position,” said Jim Reuter, NASA’s Associate Administrator for Space Operations. “We are confident that he will continue to lead NASA’s safety and mission assurance efforts to new heights.”
