Lifting of Leave of Absence for BMVD Official Joining SPD Parliamentary Group
Berlin, January 16, 2025 – The leave of absence granted to a senior official of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) to join the parliamentary group of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) has been lifted at the official’s request, effective immediately.
The official, Dr. Michael Müller, had been granted a leave of absence from his position as Director-General for Mobility and Infrastructure in June 2023 to assume the role of Secretary-General of the SPD parliamentary group. Müller’s leave of absence was set to expire in June 2026.
In a letter to BMDV Minister Clarissa Därr, Müller expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the ministry and his decision to return to his position given the “current political situation.”
“The challenges facing our country in the areas of digitalization and transport are significant, and I believe that I can make the greatest contribution to addressing them by returning to my role at the BMDV,” Müller wrote in the letter.
Minister Därr accepted Müller’s request and welcomed his decision to return to the ministry.
“Dr. Müller is a highly respected and experienced official who has made valuable contributions to the work of the ministry during his time here,” said Därr in a statement. “I am pleased that he has decided to return to the BMDV and I look forward to working with him again.”
Müller is expected to resume his duties as Director-General for Mobility and Infrastructure at the BMDV on January 18, 2025.
