Press Release: FReDA Research Project on Family Demography to be Continued
2025-01-14 13:00
Berlin. The research project “Family Demography in Germany (FReDA)”, which has been funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) since 2014, will be continued. The BMBF is providing around 5.5 million euros for the third funding period from 2025 to 2028.
FReDA is a longitudinal study that investigates the living conditions and life courses of families in Germany. The study is based on a representative sample of 15,000 families with children and adolescents. The data collected provides insights into family formation and dissolution, fertility, childbearing decisions, and the well-being of families.
The continuation of FReDA will allow researchers to further investigate the impact of social and economic changes on families. The study will also focus on new topics such as the effects of digitalization and migration on family life.
“We are delighted that the BMBF is continuing to support FReDA,” said Prof. Dr. Sabine Walper, director of the study. “The data collected by FReDA is essential for understanding the challenges and opportunities facing families in Germany today.”
The FReDA data is available to researchers worldwide. The study is conducted by a consortium of researchers from the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, the University of Rostock, and the University of Bamberg.
