Five-year ban for Lincolnshire car wash owner who employed illegal workers
A Lincolnshire car wash owner has been banned from being a company director for five years after employing illegal workers.
Mohammed Siddique, 36, of Grantham, admitted employing two illegal workers at his Grantham Car Wash, on Wharf Road, Grantham.
Siddique was handed the ban at Lincoln Crown Court after admitting two immigration offences.
He was also given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
The court heard that on 15 December 2022, immigration officers visited Grantham Car Wash and found two illegal workers.
One of the workers was a 22-year-old Albanian man who had entered the UK illegally in a lorry.
The other worker was a 35-year-old Bangladeshi man who had overstayed his visa.
Siddique admitted knowing that the two men were illegal workers.
He said he had employed them because they were willing to work for less than the minimum wage.
Siddique’s ban as a director means that he cannot be involved in the management of any company for five years.
This is the second time that Siddique has been banned from being a company director.
In 2018, he was banned for four years after admitting immigration offences at a car wash in Nottingham.
Speaking after the hearing, Tony Byrne, from the Home Office’s Immigration Enforcement team, said: “This case should serve as a warning to other employers who think they can get away with employing illegal workers.
“We will not hesitate to take action against those who break the law and exploit vulnerable people.”
