The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has today set out its priorities for the year ahead in its latest Annual Plan.
The plan focuses on delivering growth, opportunity, and prosperity for the UK through promoting competition, protecting consumers, and ensuring fair and open markets.
Key priorities for the year ahead include:
Prioritising the digital economy – by scrutinising digital markets, promoting innovation, and ensuring that consumers are protected from unfair practices.
Promoting competition and choice for consumers – by investigating and taking action against anti-competitive behavior, and working to ensure that consumers have access to a wide range of products and services.
Ensuring fair and open markets – by tackling unfair business practices, such as cartels, and ensuring that businesses compete on a level playing field.
Promoting growth and innovation – by supporting new and innovative businesses, and working to ensure that competition is not stifled by unnecessary regulation.
The CMA’s Chief Executive, Andrea Coscelli, said:
“Our Annual Plan sets out how we will continue to deliver growth, opportunity, and prosperity for the UK through promoting competition, protecting consumers, and ensuring fair and open markets.
“We will prioritize the digital economy, Scrutinizing digital markets, promoting innovation, and ensuring that consumers are protected from unfair practices. We will continue to be tough on anti-competitive behavior, working to ensure that consumers have access to a wide range of products and services.
“We will also work to ensure that businesses compete on a level playing field, tackling unfair business practices and unnecessary regulation. We believe that this approach will help to create a more prosperous and competitive UK economy.”
