The British High Commission Kuala Lumpur today announced its support for the ‘Youth STEM Ambassador’ programme, an initiative that aims to inspire the next generation of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) leaders in Malaysia.
The programme, launched by the Malaysian Ministry of Education, will see 20 outstanding young Malaysians aged between 15 and 18 serve as ambassadors for STEM education. The ambassadors will work to promote STEM careers and encourage more young people to pursue studies and careers in these fields.
The UK is providing support to the programme through the British Council, which will provide training and resources to the ambassadors. The British Council will also work with the Malaysian Ministry of Education to develop and implement a comprehensive outreach programme that will reach young people across the country.
Speaking at the launch of the programme, British High Commissioner to Malaysia Charles Hay said:
“The UK is committed to supporting STEM education around the world. We believe that STEM skills are essential for the 21st century workplace, and we want to ensure that young people have the opportunity to develop these skills.
“The Youth STEM Ambassador programme is an excellent initiative that will help to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders in Malaysia. We are proud to be supporting this programme, and we look forward to seeing the impact that it has.”
Malaysian Minister of Education Dr Maszlee Malik said:
“The Youth STEM Ambassador programme is a key part of our efforts to promote STEM education in Malaysia. We want to ensure that our young people have the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 21st century economy.
“We are grateful to the UK for their support for this programme. The British Council has a wealth of experience in delivering STEM education programmes, and we are confident that they will make a valuable contribution to the success of this initiative.”
The Youth STEM Ambassador programme is one of a number of initiatives that the UK is supporting to promote STEM education in Malaysia. Others include the ‘STEM for All’ programme, which provides training and resources to teachers to help them deliver engaging and effective STEM lessons, and the ‘STEM Challenge’ competition, which challenges young people to develop innovative STEM solutions to real-world problems.
The UK is committed to working with Malaysia to build a strong and sustainable partnership in STEM education. The UK believes that STEM skills are essential for the 21st century workplace, and it wants to ensure that young people in both countries have the opportunity to develop these skills.
