Aurora, Ont. – An investigation by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has led to the arrest of an Aurora man and charges for firearm manufacturing and possession.

On December 22, 2024, CBSA officers at the Toronto Pearson International Airport intercepted a package containing three firearms and a quantity of ammunition. The package was addressed to an individual in Aurora, Ontario.

CBSA officers worked with the York Regional Police (YRP) to investigate the matter. On January 5, 2025, YRP officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Aurora. During the search, officers seized several additional firearms, ammunition, and firearm parts.

A 27-year-old Aurora man has been charged with:

  • Three counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Three counts of manufacturing a firearm
  • One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • One count of possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition order

The man appeared in court on January 6, 2025, and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 13, 2025.

“This is a significant seizure by our officers,” said Gordie Hobday, CBSA Regional Director General. “The CBSA is committed to working with our law enforcement partners to prevent the illegal flow of firearms into Canada.”

“The York Regional Police are committed to working with our partners to keep our communities safe,” said York Regional Police Chief Jim MacSween. “We will continue to investigate and prosecute those who engage in illegal activities involving firearms.”

Anyone with information about the illegal importation or possession of firearms is encouraged to contact the CBSA Border Watch Toll-free Line at 1-888-502-9060.
