NASA to Host Media Call Highlighting Mars Sample Return Update
Pasadena, Calif. – NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) will host a media teleconference at 11 a.m. EST (8 a.m. PST) on Thursday, Jan. 5, to provide an update on the Mars Sample Return (MSR) campaign.
During the teleconference, NASA Science Mission Directorate Associate Administrator Thomas Zurbuchen and ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher will participate in a question-and-answer session with the media.
MSR is an ambitious international campaign to bring Martian samples back to Earth for the first time. The samples, which will be collected by NASA’s Perseverance rover, will be used to address fundamental questions about Mars’ history, including whether the planet has ever harbored life.
The MSR campaign is a complex and challenging undertaking, but it is also one of the most exciting scientific endeavors of our time. The samples that are returned to Earth will provide scientists with an unprecedented opportunity to study Mars and its potential for life.
Media interested in participating in the teleconference must RSVP to Kelly Beatty at kelly.s.beatty@jpl.nasa.gov by 5 p.m. EST (2 p.m. PST) on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
A link to the teleconference will be provided to registered media after the RSVP deadline.
