FBI Announces Sean T. Ryan as Special Agent in Charge of Washington Field Office’s Criminal/Cyber Division
Washington, D.C. (January 2, 2025) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has appointed Sean T. Ryan as the new Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Criminal/Cyber Division at the Washington Field Office. Mr. Ryan will assume his new role on January 2, 2025.
As SAC, Mr. Ryan will lead the division responsible for investigating a wide range of criminal offenses, including violent crime, organized crime, cybercrimes, and counterterrorism. He will also oversee the division’s intelligence collection and analysis operations.
Mr. Ryan joined the FBI in 2005 and has held a variety of leadership positions within the Bureau. Most recently, he served as the Section Chief of the Cyber Crimes Squad in the National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force. In this role, he led a team of FBI special agents, intelligence analysts, and cyber experts in investigating and disrupting sophisticated cyberattacks against the United States.
Prior to his role in the National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force, Mr. Ryan led the FBI’s Honolulu Field Office, where he oversaw all criminal and counterterrorism investigations in the state of Hawaii. He also served as the assistant special agent in charge of the FBI’s cyber squad in the Washington Field Office and as a special agent on the SWAT team in Quantico, Virginia.
Mr. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Arts degree in theology from the Saint Leo University. He is a graduate of the National Executive Institute and the FBI Academy.
