New Investments to Help Yukoners Reduce Energy Costs and Stay Warm
Whitehorse, Yukon – December 19, 2024
The Government of Canada, in partnership with the Government of Yukon, today announced new investments to help Yukoners reduce their energy costs and stay warm during the cold winter months.
The investments include $10 million for the Yukon Energy Efficiency Loan Program, which provides low-interest loans to Yukoners for energy-efficient home renovations. The program will help Yukoners make their homes more comfortable and energy-efficient, while reducing their energy bills.
The Government of Canada is also investing $5 million for the Yukon Energy Assistance Program, which provides financial assistance to Yukoners with low incomes to help pay for their energy costs. The program will help ensure that all Yukoners have access to a safe and affordable energy supply.
“Our government is committed to helping Canadians reduce their energy costs and stay warm during the winter months,” said Seamus O’Regan, Minister of Natural Resources. “These investments will help Yukoners make their homes more energy-efficient and reduce their energy bills.”
“We know that many Yukoners are struggling with the rising cost of energy,” said Ranj Pillai, Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources for the Government of Yukon. “These investments will help Yukoners make their homes more comfortable and energy-efficient, while reducing their energy bills.”
The Yukon Energy Efficiency Loan Program is available to homeowners and renters in Yukon. The program provides loans of up to $10,000 for energy-efficient home renovations, such as installing new windows and doors, upgrading insulation, and installing renewable energy systems.
The Yukon Energy Assistance Program is available to Yukoners with low incomes. The program provides financial assistance to help pay for heating costs, including electricity, natural gas, and heating oil.
Yukoners can apply for the Yukon Energy Efficiency Loan Program and the Yukon Energy Assistance Program online or by calling the Yukon Energy Efficiency Program at 1-800-661-0408.
