REGINA, Sask. – Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is reporting the seizure of contraband and unauthorized items at Saskatchewan Penitentiary, a medium-security federal institution.

The seizure was the result of a search conducted by Correctional Officers on December 16 and 17, 2024.

The following items were seized:

  • 160 grams of tobacco
  • 50 grams of marijuana
  • 8 cell phones
  • 6 cell phone chargers
  • 3 homemade weapons
  • 1 lighter
  • 1 bag of pills

“CSC has a zero-tolerance policy for contraband and unauthorized items in its institutions,” said CSC in a press release. “The introduction of contraband and unauthorized items into our institutions undermines the safety and security of our institutions and the public.”

CSC said that it is committed to preventing the entry of contraband into its institutions and that it will continue to work with police and other law enforcement agencies to prevent and detect the smuggling of contraband.

“CSC is also committed to providing safe and secure environments for its employees and inmates,” said CSC. “We will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure that our institutions are free of contraband and unauthorized items.”

Anyone with information about the suspected presence of contraband or unauthorized items in institutions is encouraged to contact CSC at (306) 780-5111 or at the nearest CSC institution.
