WASHINGTON — Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday discussed the Navy’s recruiting success in 2024 during a press conference at the Pentagon, Dec. 4, 2024.
“The Navy met its recruiting mission for fiscal year 2024, enlisting 38,995 active-duty Sailors, exceeding the Department of Defense goal of 38,500,” said Gilday. “This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our recruiters, as well as the attractiveness of naval service.”
Gilday highlighted several factors that contributed to the Navy’s recruiting success in 2024.

Gilday also credited the Navy’s marketing campaign, “Accelerate Your Life,” with helping to attract more recruits.

Gilday acknowledged that the Navy still faces some challenges in recruiting, but he is confident that the Navy will continue to meet its mission.

In addition to meeting its active-duty recruiting goal, the Navy also exceeded its reserve recruiting goal, enlisting 11,000 reservists in fiscal year 2024.
“The Navy’s reserve component is essential to our ability to meet our mission,” said Gilday. “Our reserve Sailors provide us with a pool of trained and experienced personnel that we can call upon in times of need.”
Gilday thanked the Navy’s recruiters, marketing team, and everyone else who contributed to the Navy’s recruiting success in 2024.
