Geneva/Bern, 03 December 2024 – A Swiss scientific delegation, led by the State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation, Martina Hirayama, visited Mexico and Colombia from 28 November to 2 December 2024. The delegation met with key partners in both countries to discuss bilateral cooperation in science, technology, and innovation (STI).

In Mexico, the delegation met with representatives from the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Discussions focused on ongoing and potential future collaboration in areas such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and health research.

In Colombia, the delegation met with representatives from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MinCiencias), the Colombian Institute for the Development of Science and Technology (Colciencias), and the University of Antioquia. The delegation also visited the Medellín Innovation District, a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. Discussions focused on collaboration in areas such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and peacebuilding.

The Swiss delegation also met with representatives from Swiss-based companies operating in Mexico and Colombia. These companies are playing a key role in promoting Swiss technology and innovation in Latin America.

The visit of the Swiss scientific delegation to Mexico and Colombia was a success. It allowed the delegation to strengthen existing partnerships and explore new opportunities for collaboration.
