Good morning, everyone. It is an honor to be here with you today at the 2024 Korea Society Van Fleet Signature Policy Conference. I want to thank the Korea Society for inviting me and for organizing this important event.
As you know, the United States and the Republic of Korea have a long and close relationship. We are allies, partners, and friends. We share common values, such as democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. And we have a shared interest in peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
Our alliance is more important than ever before. The world is facing a number of challenges, including the rise of China, the threat of North Korea, and the growing instability in the Middle East. We need to work together to meet these challenges and to ensure the security and prosperity of our two countries.
One of the most important things that we can do is to strengthen our military cooperation. We need to make sure that our forces are interoperable and that we can work together seamlessly in the event of a crisis. We also need to continue to develop new and innovative ways to deter and defeat our adversaries.
In addition to military cooperation, we also need to strengthen our economic and political ties. We need to increase trade and investment between our two countries. And we need to work together to promote democracy and human rights throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
The United States is committed to the ROK-US alliance. We are committed to working with the ROK to meet the challenges of the 21st century. And we are committed to building a better future for our two countries.
I want to close by thanking our veterans for their service. We owe them a debt of gratitude for their sacrifice and their dedication. We must never forget the sacrifices that they have made for our freedom.
