Whitehorse, Yukon — December 2, 2024 — The Honourable Marco Mendicino, Minister of Public Safety, and Yukon Premier Ranj Pillai today signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to establish a Reserve presence in Whitehorse, Yukon.
The LOI outlines the shared commitment of the Government of Canada and the Government of Yukon to work together to establish a Reserve unit in Whitehorse, which will provide enhanced support to the community and surrounding areas.
“The establishment of a Reserve presence in Whitehorse will provide critical support to the community and will contribute to the safety and security of Yukoners,” said Minister Blair. “This is a significant step forward in our commitment to strengthening the Reserve Force and ensuring that Canadians have access to the best possible policing services.”
“We are pleased to be working with the Government of Canada to establish a Reserve presence in Whitehorse,” said Premier Pillai. “This will provide our community with enhanced policing services and will help to create a safer and more secure Yukon.”
The Reserve unit will be made up of part-time members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) who will provide a range of policing services to the community, including:
- General duty policing
- Traffic enforcement
- Community engagement
- Search and rescue
- Disaster response
The establishment of a Reserve unit in Whitehorse is part of the Government of Canada’s broader commitment to strengthen the Reserve Force and ensure that Canadians have access to the best possible policing services.
