Research Will Help Shape Cross-Government Writing Skills Training

29th November 2024

New research will help shape cross-government writing skills training, the Government Communication Service (GCS) has announced.

The research, commissioned by GCS, will explore the writing skills needs of civil servants across government. It will also identify the most effective ways to deliver writing skills training.

The findings of the research will be used to develop a new cross-government writing skills training program. The program will be designed to help civil servants write clear, concise, and persuasive documents.

GCS Director-General Alex Aiken said: “Writing skills are essential for civil servants. They need to be able to write clearly and persuasively to communicate effectively with the public, stakeholders, and colleagues. This research will help us to develop a new cross-government writing skills training program that will meet the needs of civil servants across government.”

The research will be conducted by a team of experts from the University of Oxford. The team will use a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups.

The research is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. The findings of the research will be published in a report, which will be available on the GCS website.
