The Bank of Spain publishes today the monthly advance of general government debt according to the Excessive Deficit Procedure (EDP). This statistical information is disseminated in accordance with the requirements established in the European regulation governing the excessive deficit procedure.
According to this advance, the general government debt stood at €1,526.825 billion at the end of October 2024. This represents an increase of €27.926 billion compared to the previous month.
In terms of GDP, the debt amounted to 116.5% at the end of October, 1.3 percentage points less than at the end of September 2024.
Evolution of the debt stock
The debt stock has increased €27.926 billion compared to the previous month, as a result of the following net changes:
- Central government debt: +€24.921 billion
- Regional and local governments’ debt: +€1.206 billion
- Social Security debt: +€1.799 billion
