General Officer Assignments

The Department of Defense today announced the following general officer assignments:
- Lieutenant General (LTG) John M. Smith, currently Commanding General, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, will become Commanding General, United States Army Forces Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
- LTG Mark A. Milley, currently Commanding General, United States Army Europe and Africa, Wiesbaden, Germany, will become Chief of Staff of the Army, Washington, D.C.
- LTG Robert B. Abrams, currently Commanding General, United States Army Pacific, Fort Shafter, Hawaii, will become Commander, United States Southern Command, Miami, Florida.
- LTG Michael A. Garrett, currently Commanding General, United States Army Central, Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, will become Commanding General, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Eustis, Virginia.
- LTG Daniel B. Allyn, currently Commanding General, United States Army Materiel Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, will become Commanding General, United States Army Futures Command, Austin, Texas.
These assignments are effective as of January 1, 2025.
