Prince George, B.C. – The Government of Canada is investing over $950,000 in four Northern British Columbia organizations to create memorable outdoor experiences and strengthen tourism in rural communities.

The funding, provided through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF), will support a variety of projects, including:

  • The Prince George Tourism and Convention Centre will receive $250,000 to develop a new visitor information centre and outdoor adventure hub.
  • The Fort St. James National Historic Site will receive $200,000 to create a new interpretive trail and visitor centre.
  • The McLeod Lake Indian Band will receive $250,000 to develop a new campground and RV park.
  • The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality will receive $250,000 to develop a new mountain bike trail network.

“These projects will help to create memorable outdoor experiences for visitors and strengthen tourism in rural communities,” said the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada (PacifiCan). “Our government is committed to investing in projects that support economic growth and create jobs.”

The CCRF is a two-year, $500 million program that supports projects that revitalize communities and improve the quality of life for Canadians. The program is delivered by Canada’s regional development agencies, including PacifiCan.

“These projects will have a significant impact on our community,” said Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall. “The new visitor information centre and outdoor adventure hub will be a great asset for our city, and the new trails and campground will provide more opportunities for people to enjoy the outdoors.”

“We are grateful for this funding from the Government of Canada,” said McLeod Lake Indian Band Chief Harley Chingee. “This new campground and RV park will be a valuable addition to our community, and we look forward to welcoming visitors from all over the world.”

“This investment in outdoor recreation and tourism will have a positive impact on our region,” said Northern Rockies Regional Municipality Mayor Lee Brain. “These projects will help to attract more visitors to our communities and create new jobs.”

The CCRF is part of the Government of Canada’s broader efforts to support economic growth and create jobs in rural communities. The government is also investing in infrastructure, skills training, and innovation to help businesses succeed and create jobs.
