Northern B.C. organizations receive over $950,000 to create memorable outdoor experiences and strengthen tourism in rural communities
Twenty-six organizations in northern British Columbia will receive over $950,000 in provincial grants to create memorable outdoor experiences and strengthen tourism in rural communities.
The funding is part of the $50-million Rural Development Grant program, which supports projects that enhance economic opportunities and improve the quality of life in rural communities.
The successful projects in northern B.C. include:
- $75,000 to the Fort St. James Tourism Association to develop a new mountain biking trail in the Fort St. James area.
- $50,000 to the Fraser Lake and District Chamber of Commerce to create a new hiking trail in the Fraser Lake area.
- $45,000 to the Vanderhoof and District Chamber of Commerce to develop a new snowshoeing trail in the Vanderhoof area.
- $30,000 to the Fort St. John Huskies Junior A Hockey Club to purchase new equipment for the team.
- $25,000 to the Dawson Creek Minor Hockey Association to purchase new equipment for the association.
The Rural Development Grant program is part of the Province’s commitment to supporting rural communities and creating jobs. The program has invested over $250 million in rural communities since 2009.
“These grants will help to create new outdoor experiences and strengthen tourism in rural communities throughout northern B.C.,” said Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development Doug Donaldson. “This funding will support projects that will make our communities more attractive to visitors and create new economic opportunities.”
“The Rural Development Grant program is a valuable resource for rural communities,” said MLA for Prince George-Valemount Shirley Bond. “These grants will help to create new jobs, boost tourism, and improve the quality of life in our communities.”
The Province is committed to working with rural communities to create jobs and grow the economy. The Rural Development Grant program is one of many ways that the Province is supporting rural communities.
