The Government of Canada is investing in active and rural transit projects in Ontario to make it easier for people to get around their communities and to create new jobs.
Today, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, announced funding for 14 projects through the Rural and Northern Communities Infrastructure Stream (RNIS) of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP).
The projects include:
- Greater Sudbury Transit Services – Bus Stop Accessibility Improvements: $3.5 million to improve accessibility at 260 bus stops in Greater Sudbury, making them accessible to people with disabilities and seniors.
- Town of Fort Frances Active Transportation Network Enhancements: $2.5 million to construct a new multi-use trail along the Rainy River, connecting to the existing active transportation network and providing a safe and accessible route for walking, cycling, and rolling.
- Township of South Stormont – Active Transportation Trail Network Connections: $2.1 million to construct a new 4.5-kilometre active transportation trail that will connect the communities of Ingleside and Long Sault, providing a safe and accessible route for walking, cycling, and rolling.
- Municipality of Chatham-Kent – Chatham-Kent Active Transportation Master Plan Implementation: $1.8 million to implement the Chatham-Kent Active Transportation Master Plan, which includes constructing new multi-use trails, bike lanes, and sidewalks, and improving existing infrastructure.
- City of Cornwall – Cornwall Active Transportation System: $1.7 million to construct a new 2.5-kilometre multi-use trail along the St. Lawrence River, connecting to the existing active transportation network and providing a safe and accessible route for walking, cycling, and rolling.
