Strasbourg, 22.11.2024 – The Council of Europe will hold hearings of the candidates nominated as the next Secretary General of the Organisation and the Deputy Secretary General.
The hearings of the candidates for Secretary General, proposed by the Bureau of the Assembly on 29 September 2024, will take place on Tuesday 26 November 2024, from 9.30 am to 5 pm. This order in which the candidates will be heard was drawn by lot at the Bureau meeting on 16 November 2024. The Bureau of the Assembly will meet at the end of the hearings to adopt its recommendation to the Assembly, which will vote on the candidatures at its January 2025 part-session.
The hearings of the candidates for Secretary General will be held in this order:
• Marija Pejčinović Burić (Croatia) • Bujar Osmani (North Macedonia) • Titus Corlăţean (Romania) • Dacian Cioloș (Romania) • Khalid Aït Taleb (Morocco)
The hearings of the candidates for the post of Deputy Secretary General, proposed by the Committee of Ministers on 17 November 2024, will be held on Wednesday 27 November 2024 from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm. The Committee of Ministers will meet at the end of the hearings to adopt its recommendation to the Assembly, which will vote on the candidatures at its January 2025 part-session. The alphabetical order in which the candidates will be heard is as follows:
• Bjørn Berge (Norway) • Elmira Suleymanova (Azerbaijan) • Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni (Italy) • Tatjana Bošnjaković (Montenegro) • Christos Giakoumopoulos (Greece)
