Press release – Hearing of Executive Vice-President-designate Stéphane Séjourné
Brussels, 12 November 2024 – The European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO) will hold a hearing on Monday, 14 November 2024, from 9.00 to 10.45 (CET), for Mr Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President-designate for Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight.
The hearing will be webstreamed live on the European Parliament’s Multimedia Centre.
Stéphane Séjourné is a French politician who has served as the President of Renew Europe since 2022. He is a member of La République En Marche! (LREM) and has been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) since 2019. He is the lead candidate for the Renew Europe party in the 2024 European Parliament elections.
Under the guidelines agreed between the European Parliament and the European Commission, the hearings of Commissioners-designate should be transparent and subject to democratic scrutiny. Parliament’s role is to assess the suitability of the candidate for the position.
To this end, during the hearing, members of the AFCO Committee will evaluate Séjourné’s:
- General competence and European commitment
- Specific expertise relevant to the portfolio
- Communication skills (including command of the relevant EU languages)
Following the hearing, the AFCO Committee will vote on whether to recommend that Parliament approve the appointment of Séjourné as Executive Vice-President. The full Parliament will then vote on the Commission as a whole, likely in early December.
Please note that the hearing scheduled for Monday, 14 November 2024, at 09:00-10:45 (CET), with Executive Vice-President-designate Tiemo Wölken in the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) has been postponed.
