Today’s Labour Market Statistics show that Scotland’s economy continues to perform strongly, with employment at a record high and unemployment at a record low.
The number of people in employment in Scotland increased by 14,000 in the quarter to September 2024, to 2,676,000. This is the highest level of employment since records began in 1992.
The unemployment rate fell by 0.2% in the quarter to September 2024, to 3.8%. This is the lowest level of unemployment since records began in 1992.
The Scottish Secretary, Alister Jack, said:
“These figures are further evidence of the strength of Scotland’s economy. Employment is at a record high and unemployment is at a record low.
“This is good news for Scotland and shows that our economy is moving in the right direction.
“The Scottish Government should build on this progress and continue to work with businesses to create jobs and boost the economy.”
