Published 11 November 2024
The UK gambling regulator, the Gambling Commission, has today announced that over £10 million has been reinvested in Welsh communities through its Revitalising Trusts programme.
The Revitalising Trusts programme was launched in 2021 to help communities across Great Britain benefit from the proceeds of crime linked to gambling. The programme provides funding to projects that tackle the root causes of gambling-related harm and support those affected by it.
In Wales, the Revitalising Trusts programme has funded a wide range of projects, including:
- A project to provide support to young people at risk of gambling addiction
- A project to train teachers and professionals on how to identify and support children and young people who are experiencing gambling-related harm
- A project to develop and deliver a national awareness campaign on gambling-related harm
The Gambling Commission’s Chief Executive, Andrew Rhodes, said:
“I am delighted to see that over £10 million has been reinvested in Welsh communities through our Revitalising Trusts programme. This funding is making a real difference to people’s lives, helping to tackle the root causes of gambling-related harm and support those affected by it.”
“The Revitalising Trusts programme is a key part of our commitment to making gambling fairer and safer. We will continue to work with partners across Great Britain to ensure that the proceeds of crime linked to gambling are used to make a positive difference in communities.”
The Welsh Government’s Deputy Minister for Social Services, Julie Morgan, said:
“I am pleased to see that the Gambling Commission’s Revitalising Trusts programme is making a positive contribution to communities in Wales. This funding is helping to tackle the root causes of gambling-related harm and support those affected by it.”
“The Welsh Government is committed to working with partners to reduce gambling-related harm and protect the most vulnerable in our society.”
The Revitalising Trusts programme is one of a number of initiatives that the Gambling Commission is undertaking to reduce gambling-related harm. Other initiatives include:
- A review of the Gambling Act 2005
- A new national strategy to reduce gambling-related harm
- A new levy on gambling operators to fund research, education and treatment
The Gambling Commission is committed to making gambling fairer and safer. We will continue to work with partners across Great Britain to reduce gambling-related harm and protect the most vulnerable in our society.
