Eight-year ban for director who employed illegal workers at Sheffield car wash
A company director has been banned from acting as a director for eight years after employing illegal workers at a Sheffield car wash.
Mohammed Idrees, 47, of Manor Park, Sheffield, was the sole director of MIH (Sheffield) Limited, which operated the car wash on Penistone Road.
An investigation by the Insolvency Service found that Idrees employed four illegal workers at the car wash between May 2017 and March 2018. The workers were paid less than the minimum wage and were not given any employment contracts.
Idrees was also found to have failed to keep adequate accounting records for the company, which made it difficult to determine the true financial position of the business.
As a result of his actions, Idrees has been disqualified from acting as a director for eight years. He is also required to pay £15,000 towards the costs of the investigation.
Commenting on the case, Dean Beale, Chief Investigator for the Insolvency Service, said:
“Directors who employ illegal workers and fail to keep proper accounting records undermine legitimate businesses and harm the UK economy.
“We are committed to taking action against those who break the law. This ban should serve as a warning to others that such behaviour will not be tolerated.”
The Insolvency Service is responsible for investigating and prosecuting directors who are involved in misconduct. The Service can also disqualify directors from acting as directors for up to 15 years.
